ESSENCE OF FEAR

by Bethany-KrisA Boykov Bratva NovelPublication Date: June 22, 2020Genres: Adult, Romantic Suspense, Organized Crime. Erotic Romance, Standalone

The allure of fear is learning to love it.

Viktoria Boykov has heard it all—cold they call her. The spoiled bratva princess. She knows very well what people say when her back is turned. She doesn’t mind; let them talk. It’s better for people to assume what they want about her than for them to know the truth … until him.

Pavel Kotov knows what people say—death they call him. The Boykov dog. He’s heard all the whispers locked away in the cells of the Compound. As the reaper for the bratva, his life owned by someone else, he knows what they say doesn’t matter. His life has never mattered … until her.

He’s terrifying.

She’s terrified.

Viktoria only wants to keep running from her past. Pavel doesn’t have a life to run from. Freedom is the one thing they both crave—for entirely different reasons. But this life is vicious, and scars like the ones they wear will never fade.

Together, they could have everything.

Or are they just pawns to a bigger game?

*

Note: Essence of Fear is a Boykov Bratva standalone.

My thoughts 💭

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Two people who were “broken” by one tyrants choices find happiness together and I absolutely loved it! Pav and Vik were amazing! They both were absolutely crazy but complimented one another so well! This was an amazingly written story and I definitely enjoyed reading!

Review: Newly Undead In Dark River by Grace McGinty

Length: 257 pages

Published: September 13, 2019

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Source: Kindle Unlimited

Synopsis

Welcome to Dark River. Population 0.

When Mika McKellen woke up in a stormwater drain while backpacking around Canada, she knew that her mother was right. If you made bad choices, you would end up dead in a ditch. But when she stumbled into Dark River, even her mother could never have dreamed up the residents of this small town in the middle of nowhere, Alberta.

Oh, it had all the usual suspects. Quirky diner owners, untrustworthy outcasts and a Sheriff so hot he’d make any red-blooded woman with a heartbeat beg to be in cuffs in the back of his patrol vehicle. No, the really unusual thing about Dark River was that it was entirely populated by the Undead. Vampires to be specific. And so was Mika.

As Mika adjusts to the life of a Vampire, a dark presence stalks her from the shadows. One of the residents of Dark River was her maker and her murderer.

And they were determined to ensure that Mika never rested in peace.

My thoughts 💭

Mika/Raine is turned into a vampire against her will and no memory of what happened. The vampire town welcomes her and helps her settle while the hot sheriff tries to find her maker. As Raine adjusts to vampire life she attracts a few males who calls themselves her harem. This book had me hooked from beginning to end with the secrets, lies, betrayal and steam!

Review: Midnight Fae Academy by Lexi C. Foss

Length: 337 pages

Published: June 2, 2020

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Source: Kindle Unlimited

Synopsis

I’m in purgatory.

Hell.

A Midnight Fae dungeon.

All because my mates betrayed me.

Shade swears he’s innocent.

Zeph promises that what he did was for my own best interest.

Meanwhile, Kols isn’t apologetic in the slightest, his cocky arrogance claiming fate intervened at just the right moment.

I hate them all.

Crave them, too.

And now I have to work with them to solve a millennia-old secret, one that involves my true heritage.

Except our digging has awoken an ancient power and it’s threatening to destroy the Midnight Fae realm with its vengeance.

If only the Academy offered courses in mediation.

I could use one of those right about now.

Because as it turns out, I’m the only one with the power to stop this thing from taking over.

And I have to rely on my mates to help guide me.

Welcome to Midnight Fae Academy, where the classes are useless and the male fae are all jackholes. Wish me luck.

Author’s Note: This is a dark paranormal why choose trilogy with bully romance (enemies-to-lovers) elements. Despite Aflora’s opinions on the matter, there will definitely be biting. Shadow, a. k. a. Shade, guarantees it. This book ends on a cliffhanger.

My thoughts 💭

I enjoyed this book! The secrets and bonding had me hooked! Aflora felt betrayed until things were explained and then she started to get closer to and bond with her guys. There’s a war coming and Shade is making moves that pisses everyone off even though you know he’s doing it all for Aflora’s benefit. Zeph starts feeling like he’s getting the hang of being a mate and Kols is jealous since he has other duties that currently won’t allow him to complete the bond with Aflora. I can’t wait to read what’s next!

Synopsis

A Dark Mafia Shifter Romance

We aren’t her saviors. We’re her worst nightmare.

We’ve been called vicious monsters. Brutal. Cold. Savage.

We rule the criminal underworld the same way we rule our pack—with absolute control. We take what we want and demand complete obedience.

When she comes to us, she’s damaged. Fragile. Wounded. And oh so tempting.

Soft skin, haunted eyes, and a darkness inside her that sets us on edge.

She’s not broken… yet. But that’s what we do best.

For thirty days she belongs to us, the Baron Alphas. She’s our property, to do with as we please.

She thinks it’ll be easy. That we’ll have mercy on her. That we’ll use a gentle touch. And that she’ll be able to walk away from us at the end of the month.

She’s wrong.

Our little fawn will come to know our cruel strength. She’ll see the fierce beasts prowling inside us. Feel the hunger of the wolf’s teeth against her throat.

And she’ll beg for more.

My thoughts 💭

This book was amazing! I can’t wait for the next book. Jemma ends up in the hands of Draven, Bishop and Kade. They’re dominant alphas who give her exactly what she craves while helping her find her inner fire and not coping with alcohol or pills or letting a crap person run her life. This book had me hooked from beginning to end!

Review: Seven Sins Of Snow by Loxley Savage

Length: 471 pages

Published: May 22, 2020

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey, you!

Yeah, you.

Are you listening?

I have a story to tell you but it’s not your average fairy tale.

My story?

It’s wrought with violence.

Strewn with blood.

Dominated by desire.

My stepmother, the evil queen, hates me. She wants me dead but hasn’t killed me yet. At her insistence, a never ending line of repugnant suitors tries for my hand, but when I decline each and every one of them, the evil queen punishes me…severely.

She will stop at nothing until I’m sold or dead.

As she grows insane with power and my death seems imminent, something unexpected happens.

I see a ‘lurker.’ They come to me in my dreams, touch me, taste me. Even though I’ve never met them outside of my mind, I begin to crave them.

Stories have been passed down in the town of Riverwood about creatures of legend, kings given the power to wield the seven deadly sins.

They tell me they want me, they claim that I belong to them.

As I fall deeper into sin, they become mine as much as I am theirs.

What will happen if I submit to their desires? Will I transform into the very weapon I seek, harnessing their power for my own or will I find myself lost in their seduction?

The evil queen might kill me first. But I’ve made a vow to my people; to take back my stolen throne while bathing in her blood.

Read my story and find out what happens…if you dare.

SEVEN SINS OF SNOW is a full-length stand-alone, dark, PNR, RH retelling of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Nothing inside these pages is appropriate for a children’s story. Withing this tale are scenes with detailed sex, naughty language, torture, violence, drugs, and much more. If such material offends you, please do not read this book.

My thoughts 💭

This was a deliciously dark and steamy read. Snow’s life has been horrible she’s saved by lurkers and they make her their queen. She’s very willing to do anything to li this and save her people and it doesn’t hurt that the 7 Kings are very handsome and want to fulfill her every desire! I really enjoyed this book!

Review: His Human Nanny by Michele Mills

Length: 151 pages

Published: May 9, 2020

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Source: Kindle Unlimited

Synopsis

My indentured servitude is almost over and freedom is a heartbeat away!

Until some alien guy buys me because he needs a nanny, quick. What the actual f@ck? I’m not even good with kids. I’ve never changed a diaper in my life. But the beings at the employment agency won’t listen. “Hew-mans are hot right now. Everyone wants a hew-man nanny.” Great. And since there isn’t another human available… I’m hired on the spot.

Yay, me.

And on day one of my new job I’m having a panic attack because I finally meet my new boss and he looks like Satan himself. No lie. Black horns, red eyes and glinting silver-tipped claws. He even has a barbed tail, a forked tongue, and he breathes fire. This guy is terrifying, and his children look exactly like him.

*heart palpitations* *hyperventilating*

And yet, as I’m caring for these strangely adorable infants and gazing longingly at my crazy-rich boss as he cradles his twin babies in his huge, muscular arms… my traitorous heart goes pitter-patter and my body heats up like lava.

Oh no.

And I begin to wonder — have I sold my soul to the devil?

My thoughts 💭

I loved this book. Riley takes one last job being a nanny to the devil like alien Aegir. They have amazing chemistry but they have to fight it until Aegir is able to claim her. Riley continues to care and love his children while getting impatient for her husband to claim her. This was an enjoyable read. I definitely recommend! I can’t wait to read Bergelmir and Chloe’s book!

Review: Credence by Penelope Douglas

Length: 485 pages

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new standalone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot, winter nights ensue…

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of eighteen. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he…

He’s going to keep her.

*Credence is a full length, stand-alone romance suitable for readers 18+.

My thoughts 💭

This was a pretty good read with a bit of taboo. Tiernan, Jake, Kaleb and Noah are all a little messed up but they somehow helped each other get over whatever was holding them back and move forward with their lives. Like they woke each other up. I just felt weird that Jake and Noah knew Kaleb was in love with Tiernan but still hooked up with her. They had no communication between the 3 of them because Kaleb wasn’t that okay with sharing her where Jake and Noah didn’t seem to mind. This was an interesting read.

Review: The Salvant Brothers: Book 1- Axl by Sonja B.

Synopsis

I am death. My face is the last thing my targets see before I snatch their souls from their bodies. I gain strength from their fear and pleasure from their screams. Just hearing my name will make a mother fucker think twice about crossing me. In my line of business there is no weakness and there’s definitely no room for love. At least that’s what I used to think until her little feisty ass came back into my life. She came in like a wrecking ball and bringing all kinds of havoc with her. Now someone has the audacity to think they can take her from me. Fuck no. Her mind, body and soul belong to me. I am the Snatcher of Souls and I will snatch life from anyone who tries get in between me and my queen even if that means burying the man who made me.

This is not a Paranormal!

My thoughts 💭

This was an okay read for me. Axl is taken to cover his father’s debts and turned into the soul snatcher leaving behind his family and Monica. When he finally gets some slack from the boss he gets his family back but not his girl. A hit comes in but it’s for his girl and he hides her and makes plans to keep her safe. I would’ve liked more conversation or interactions between Axl and Monica.
