All they see is my painted face

Truth is, I’m terrified, all the hope inside me died

Death and cold will forever be my morbid fate

Then she showed me something more

Somehow stealing deaths allure

Trigger Warning: This book contains many triggers and this warning should be taken seriously. The sexual and graphically depicted scenes in this novel are not for the squeamish and will be disturbing for some readers.

My thoughts 💭

This was a dark but addictive retelling of The Night Before Christmas. I just had to know how it ended lol! Heed the trigger warnings! Sarah and the Skeleton King(John) have both been through hell. John with his abusive mother and Sarah with her abusive kidnapper. They both are interested in each other and finally end up together after a little bloodshed. I enjoyed their story.

Vegas is where good people go to sin. Reno is where the bad ones go.

Amidst the drugs, weapons, and trafficking, a murder-for-hire market has emerged. And my motorcycle club is right in the thick of it.

If you can pay, we have a million different ways to solve your problem. You want someone to vanish without a trace? The Great Basin Desert is almost two hundred thousand square miles of “nobody will ever find you.” You want to make a statement? We’ve been known to hang bodies from the Reno Arch.

If you’re paying, we’re killing. No witnesses, no evidence, and no questions asked.

That is until we’re hired to locate and kill a group threatening biological warfare by exposing our city to a deadly virus they stole. It’s the big payday we need. But in order to take the job, we have to also agree to protect the spoiled brat who saw everything.

Small. Frail. Innocent. Frightened. I made her my little birdie, but she always wants to fly away. Too bad for her I’ve clipped her wings and locked her in my cage.

They say free birds sing, and caged birds pray. Her cries sound the same to me.

Release Blitz: Counts Of Eight by Brynn Ford

Title: Counts of Eight
Author: Brynn Ford
Series: The Four Families #1
Genre: Dark Romance

All of my choices had been stripped from me except for one. Dance or die.

Three years ago, I was taken, stolen away, far from the world I knew, far from civilization. I became a slave, forced to serve one of the four families with my talent.

I’d been abused, battered, tortured in isolation. My master brought me men, partners for performance, but they failed to live up to the high standard of dance my master required.

Until one day, he brought me a new man. A blond-haired, green-eyed, dreamy new man who had no idea what was coming.

The men before him had disappeared. I presumed they were dead. I couldn’t afford myself the luxury of hoping they’d made it out alive because that would give me hope that I might someday do the same.

Hope was a dangerous thing and this new man’s spirit still thrummed with that electric spark of lightness. I would be the woman to strip that hope from him piece by tiny piece until he had none left. Only then could I control him, use him. Only then could I even consider the possibility of a predictable, complacent survival in this nightmare life.

And until that time came, I would make the only choice I was given the liberty of making.

Dance or die.

CONTENT WARNING: This book contains explicit sexual content, violence, and mature themes including scenes where consent is not sought or given. The author in no way condones such heinous acts, but rather seeks to immerse the reader in the true horror of the characters’ experiences. This is your trigger warning – reader discretion is advised.

SERIES NOTE: “Counts of Eight” is book one of three in the Four Families trilogy. It is not a standalone and the books must be read in order. The author plans to release books one and two in 2020 and book three by early 2021. The cliffhanger ending may provoke you to fling this book at the wall. Best of luck to you, daring readers.

Brynn Ford is an author of romance in all of its beautiful and sensually taboo forms. She is a lover of the dark, twisted, and playful and strives to bring the unmentionable aspects of passionate romance into her stories.

Brynn resides in the Midwest with her husband and sons, whom she expects will someday be embarrassed by their mom’s books. When she isn’t obsessively writing, you may find her binge watching favorite shows while eating far too much junk food or fanatically reading, always seeking to lose herself in the emotional roller coaster of a damn good story.

She is quite the idealist, despite her fascination with the wicked and warped aspects of humanity. Some of her stories may run out of words before a happily ever after, but she’s a firm believer that her characters continue to live on outside the pages in the minds of her readers. Stories don’t end just because there aren’t anymore pages to turn.

Synopsis

From #1 Amazon Bestseller L.J. Shen comes a new, emotional standalone about first love, second chances, and overcoming breathtaking losses at a young age.

Vaughn Spencer.

They call him an angry god.

To me, he is nothing but a heartless prince.

His parents rule this town, its police, every citizen and boutique on Main Street.

All I own is a nice, juicy grudge against him for that time he almost killed me.

Between hooking up with a different girl every weekend, breaking hearts, noses and rules, Vaughn also finds the time to bully little ole’ me.

I fight back, tooth and nail, never expecting him to chase me across the ocean after we graduate high school.

But here he is, living with me in a dark, looming castle on the outskirts of London.

A fellow intern. A prodigal sculptor. A bloody genius.

They say this place is haunted, and it is.

Carlisle Castle hides two of our most awful secrets.

Vaughn thinks he can kill the ghosts of his past, but what he doesn’t know? It’s my heart he’s slaying.

Angry God is a stand-alone, DARK High School Romance. It deals with sensitive subjects some may find triggering.

My thoughts 💭

This book was absolutely amazing and gave me all the feels! It’s dark but it’s sooo good. Lenora and Vaughn are both crazy but they are perfect for each other! I definitely recommend reading this!

Cover Reveal: The Black Fox by Brianna Hale

Title: The Black Fox
Collection: The Dirty Heroes Collection
Author: Brianna Hale
Genre: Dark Romance Novella
Release Date:
Cover Design: Jay Aheer – Simply Defined Art

For fifteen years I was the Black Fox, the hero of Spain, the good-luck devil. I made my enemies dance to my tune and fall to my sword.

The day must come when every hero hangs up his cape, and for me, it was the day I outsmarted the curse. I would not die for love, because I didn’t love the woman I married. Valeria Hernandez didn’t love me.
Then I met her. Lolita. Fresh from boarding school, as beautiful as a rose’s thorn and poised to pierce my heart. Little Lo is as dangerous as sin and twice as forbidden. She hates me, but she loves her Black Fox. Her savior. Her devil in black.
How he loves to hear her call him daddy.
Author’s note: The Black Fox is a novella of 25,000 words. This book contains cheating.

Lolita backs up toward the door, her terrified eyes never leaving my face. I put out my hand and shove the door closed, crowding her against it. “Who were you with?”
Lolita swallows and stares up at me with huge eyes. She can sense it, too, this power crackling through me. It’s like a hit of adrenaline and a shot of whisky, making me invincible.
“No one.”
I slam my fist against the door, and she jumps. “Don’t lie to me.” The scent from her body is all warm summer night and fragrant flowers. I’d know, wouldn’t I, if she’s had some man pressed against her? I grasp her chin and turn her head in the light, examining her lips and throat. Her mouth isn’t swollen with kisses. There are no red bite-marks on her creamy neck. The tight band around my heart eases a little.
She yanks her chin from my hand and glares at me. “Get your hands off me.”
“In this house, you will obey my rules,” I seethe.
“Go to hell.”
So that’s how it’s going to be. That’s how she thinks it will be, anyway. I’m glad she’s misbehaved on her very first night. We can get things straight from the beginning. “Say you’re sorry for breaking the rules.”
Lolita forces a laugh. There’s defiance in her eyes, but fear, too. She isn’t sure how far I’m willing to take this.
All the way.
I reach down and slowly unbuckle my belt, the black leather sliding through the silver buckle. “Last chance, Lolita. Say, I’m sorry, daddy.”
Her voice is a horrified whisper. “You wouldn’t dare.”
There’s nothing I wouldn’t dare do right now. There’s a voice whispering in the back of my mind, showing me the way forward. I loop the belt around her neck and draw her to me. “Tell daddy you’re sorry, and I’ll let you off just this once.”
Her eyes flicker with panic, but she doesn’t say anything. I tighten the belt around her throat until she struggles to breathe. “I’ve got all night. You’ve got about a minute till you pass out.”
“I’m sorry,” she finally chokes out.
“I’m sorry, daddy.”
Her face creases with revulsion. I smile a slow, smoldering smile, anticipating how sweet it will sound from her pretty pink mouth.
“I’m sorry, daddy.”
Her lips are so close to mine that I could drop a kiss onto them. Her breasts are pressed against my chest. I can smell her innocence, just begging to be consumed.
A delicacy like Lolita is meant to be savored. Slowly, I loosen my hold on the belt, slide it free from her neck and step back. “Daddy forgives you, babygirl.”
Lolita takes great, heaving breaths. ‘I’ll tell Mamá what you just did. What you made me call you, you pervert.’
I chuckle, threading my belt back through my pants. “Go ahead. It’s not as if she’ll believe you, you filthy little liar.”
Lolita bursts into tears, yanks the door open, and runs from the room. I watch her disappear down the hall, still grinning.
Then the smile dies on my face.
I stagger and clutch the door frame as horror crashes over me. What the fuck was I just doing to my stepdaughter? The righteous anger that sustained me all evening and told me that terrorizing Lolita was the right thing to do has evaporated, and I’m left cold and empty. I hear a faint peal of malicious laughter, and whip around.
‘Who’s there?’
The castel is still around me. The chirping cicadas cut through the night air. I look down at my hands, the ones that so recently held my belt tight around Lolita’s throat, and see that they’re shaking.
Who am I? What am I becoming? I don’t recognize myself from the man I was this morning. The man I was before I met Lolita.
There’s nothing Brianna Hale likes more than a large, stern alpha male with a super-protective and caring streak, and when she’s not writing about them she can usually be found with a book, a cocktail, planning her next trip to a beautiful location or attending the theatre. She believes that pink and empowerment aren’t mutually exclusive, and everyday adventures are possible. Brianna lives in London.

Emilia—

All I’ve
ever wanted was to marry for love.
But girls
like me don’t have that luxury.
We are used
as pawns in a game we can’t control.
The game?
It’s called Mafia.
I was
foolish enough to try to change the rules… and I lost.
Luca—

She was
promised to me years ago.
And he
dared to take her from me.
Dared to
touch what was mine.
I put an
end to that.
I hope he’s
enjoying the view from his dirt room.
Emilia—

My
beloved’s killer placed a ruby ring on my finger and called me his queen.
But that
red gem symbolizes something different for me.
It
represents the blood shed by those I love most.
Hell was
empty the day we wed.
Because the
devil was standing before me and said “I do.”
Luca—

I saw her
as a possession.
A shiny toy
I didn’t want other boys to play with.
But she’s
so much more.
Beautiful
and brave and strong and broken all at once.
She tastes
like everything I’ve ever wanted.
Emilia—

Hidden and
patient.
I wait for
the perfect time to seek my revenge.
But slowly,
I feel him possessing me.
His heart
is full of darkness… and I still want every inch of him.
Hard as I
try, I can’t escape loving this beautiful monster.
Luca—

I’m waiting
patiently because I already know that she’s mine.
Mine in a
way that no one will ever understand.
Even if she
hasn’t yet realized it.
For love,
I’d do
anything.
For her,
I’d do
everything.

Excerpt
I focus my attention on the girl sitting to Sofia’s left. The more
beautiful one. The older-looking one. The more frightened-looking one with
tears pooling in her lower lids.
Dark brown hair cascading over her shoulders and down her arms, the ends
nuzzling against her bare skin like a frightened child clinging to its mother.
Almond-shaped deep-caramel eyes surrounded by lush dark lashes. A few scattered
freckles across the bridge of her perfectly shaped nose. Plump, glossy coral
lips.
In my wildest dreams, my betrothed didn’t grow up to be this beautiful.
And it annoys the hell out of me because I don’t want to be attracted to her.
I want to make her suffer.

Sofia Bellini grips the hand of the girl in question. “Please, Marco.
Swear to me on your honor that my daughter will be safe with you.”
My father chuckles. “Emilia is going to give us babies, heirs to the
Rossini empire. There is no safer place for her than with our family. You know
that.”
Sofia and the girl beside her, my Emilia, embrace one another and sob.
Her grandmother and sisters cluster around her doing the same. It’s pathetic. I
would have expected less of a display from Bellinis. Certainly not this
spectacle.
My betrothed has weaknesses. Those will need to be eliminated before she
influences our sons with that nonsense.
“That’s more than enough of that,” I tell them.

She lifts her chin and her eyes meet mine for the first time. Inside
those deep-caramel orbs, I see something I like very much: rage. There during
one heartbeat and gone the next, it was only a fleeting flash. But I saw it and
I don’t mistake it for what it is.
This girl is going to be so much fun to break.

“Come, Emilia. I’m ready to take you home.”

Review: Manhandled by Sara Fields

Synopsis

Two hours ago, my ship reached the docks at Dryac.

An hour ago, a slaver tried to drag me into an alley.

Fifty-nine minutes ago, a beast of a man knocked him out cold.

Fifty-eight minutes ago, I told my rescuer to screw off, I could take care of myself.

Fifty-five minutes ago, I felt a thick leather belt on my bare backside for the first time.

Forty-five minutes ago, I started begging.

Thirty minutes ago, he bent me over a crate and claimed me in the most shameful way possible.

Twenty-nine minutes ago, I started screaming.

Twenty-five minutes ago, I climaxed with a crowd watching and my bottom sore inside and out.

Twenty-four minutes ago, I realized he was nowhere near done with me.

One minute ago, he finally decided I’d learned my lesson, for the moment at least.

As he leads me away, naked, well-punished, and very thoroughly used, he tells me I work for him now, I’ll have to earn the privilege of clothing, and I’m his to enjoy as often as he pleases.

Publisher’s Note: Manhandled includes spankings, rough sexual scenes, intense and humiliating punishments, and strong D/s themes. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

My Thoughts 💭

This was a little dark & hot sci-fi read. Cara is rescued and then punished by Bane. Bane takes Cara home and tells her she’ll be working for him since she wants to work. They have some good chemistry. The book kept me interested from beginning to end.
