Blog Tour/ARC Review: Pink by Bethany-Kris

by Bethany-Kris
Publication Date: May 8, 2020
Genres: Adult, Mafia, Organized Crime. Erotic Romance, Standalone

He’s Pink, the personal enforcer for the boss of the New York mafia. She’s Gigi Rey, a supermodel known across the globe.

They live two entirely different lives but before the mob and the fame, they were Lev Arsov and Gigi Parker. Two people struggling to make it—who met by chance—before life got in the way.

Five years have passed since the nights they shared together, but Fashion Week brings Gigi back to New York and straight into Lev’s path once more, when her work obligations tangles with the mafia’s business. In this world, that’s never a good thing.

They aren’t the same people now. He’s a single dad doing whatever he can for his daughter. Gigi can’t walk down the street without the world watching. A lot has changed. The one thing that didn’t? How they keep finding their way into each other’s heads … and beds.

If only it was that simple.
If only the tabloids didn’t back them into a wall.
If only they saw it coming.

If only they could go back to the time before he was … Pink.

If only.

My thoughts 💭

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BK is one of my favorite mafia romance authors! Gives me just what I need! Finally Pink’s story! I loved this book! Pink and Gigi had so much chemistry! They were hot when they could just be with each other! This book was interesting, steamy, has suspense and was entertaining to read. I definitely recommend!

“Nobody followed me,” she promised, clearly noticing his stare. “No security, no paparazzi … hopefully no fans, but sometimes that happens so if it does, just let me say hi, do my thing, and don’t answer anybody’s questions because they will try to get literally anything they can out of you. Fair warning.”

Lev’s attention went back to her in an instant. “Oh, no worries on that. I wouldn’t mind if you did need to bring somebody, by the way. It’s probably a normal thing for you, right?”

“Regular … not something I’d call normal.”

“Point taken. Wanna sit down?”

Her brilliant, gorgeous smile was back just like that. “Yeah, let’s sit. Nice place. Not my usual style, but … it serves the purpose for keeping me out of sight, right?”

Lev’s laughter came out dark and husky as he reclaimed his stool, and she took the one on his right. “Sorry, would you have preferred a club?”

She peered his way, and her dark lashes fanned wide with black mascara distracted him from the bartender’s approach with the whiskey sour he’d ordered for Gigi. “I preferred to catch up with you, Lev. I didn’t care where we did it.”

Right.

He would keep that in mind.

“And you remembered, too.”

“What’s that?” he asked.

Gigi winked and pointed at the glass the bartender set on top of a white, monogrammed napkin in front of her. “Whiskey sour. My drink of choice.”

A pointed look from Lev sent the bartender spinning around to head for someone else down the bar when the man opened his mouth like he was going to say something to the woman next to him. Gigi’s light laugh might have embarrassed him for being so possessive over her time and presence but fuck it … he wasn’t going to apologize for it.

“I think he knows who you are,” Lev said, palming the beer on the bar that he’d been nursing long before Gigi arrived. “And I didn’t forget anything about you, Gigi. Not a single damn thing.”

Chancing a look at the woman on his right, Lev found her nibbling on her bottom lip while her striking green eyes lowered to appreciate the tailored fit of his white button-down and how he’d rolled the sleeves up his forearms.

Painted a dusty rose color, her plush mouth threw him back in time without any warning. He could still remember the way her lips felt against his skin. How she kissed him hungrily. All the sounds that mouth of hers could make for him.

Not a date, he told himself. This isn’t a date, Lev.

But she sure looked like it.

“Although to be fair to the bartender,” Lev added in a murmur, “he wasn’t the only man in this place that couldn’t stop staring at you. I think every single man in here—”

“But I was only looking at you, right?”

“At, or for?”

Gigi wet her lips, and drummed her black-painted, stiletto fingernails to the glass in front of her. “Could it be both?”

“I thought you wanted to catch up?”

Unashamed and brazen, her sexy smile turned on him when she replied, “I do … maybe more than I should. Part of me thinks we never really finished what we started, Lev.”

“I didn’t know we started anything.”

“We wouldn’t be sitting in this bar if we hadn’t.”

Well

Lev barked out a hard laugh. A shitty attempt to hide the fact that her words and their frank truth slammed into his chest like a wrecking ball. “All right, let’s catch up.” He spun sideways on the stool, facing her entirely with the beer firm in his palm. He tipped the bottle up for a sip, fully enjoying the way she watched his throat bob with every swallow. Setting it back to the bar but not turning back in his seat, he said, “Tell me all about Gigi Rey, sweetheart.”

Gigi rolled her twinkling eyes and waved a hand high. “Her? She’s nobody.”

“Never heard a worse lie.”

Surprise Blitz: Before by Bethany-Kris

BEFORE

by Bethany-Kris
Publication Date: April 20, 2020
Genres: Adult, Mafia, Organized Crime. Erotic Romance, Novella

Before everything changed …

He was just Lev Arsov. Bartender. Occasional illegal fighter. Struggling to get by.

Before the world watched …

She was just Gigi Parker. Unknown. Fledgling model. Barely making it work.

Before he was Pink, the mob enforcer, and she was Gigi Rey, the supermodel, they met by chance. It was only fun. No strings. Two people who didn’t have the first clue how different their lives would soon be.

But that was before …

Before everything changed.

*

Before is a free 31k preview of Bethany-Kris’s upcoming 112k standalone Mafia Romance, Pink. Blending in a contemporary beginning with Before, readers are introduced to how it all began for the mob enforcer and his supermodel. Note: Before is also included in Pink.

“Has anybody ever told you that your face should be on magazines?”

Gigi’s head popped up as a laugh burst from her lips. The man that had been working with the girls further down the bar approached her spot at the end, passing by at least twenty other people who gestured with a bit more ferocity at his blatant disregard for their shouts and demands. The white tee he wore stretched across the broad bands of muscle that made up an expansive chest. Rolled up at the sleeves, the fabric tightened to show off the way his strong arms and golden skin, dusted with dark hair, glinted under the pot lights that made up the backdrop of the bar when he placed them in front of her spot on the shiny top.

Black hair, shaved down to a well-groomed buzz, had a blue tint and only added to the sea-color of the stare that flicked over her features and then chanced a glance down at the low dip in the front of her romper. The man had no shame that he was checking her out, but she didn’t really mind all that much, either.

He wasn’t hard on the eyes.

It didn’t hurt to look at him.

Not at all.

And since he seemed content to drink in a good gulp of her, she did the same for him. Standing at least six and a half feet tall behind the bar, he towered higher than even the shelves of liquor behind him. Strong lines made up a face that didn’t have a hint of boyishness anywhere—not in the scruff that dotted a jaw and cheeks carved from stone. He was all man, all over. A thick brow quirked up when her stare slammed back into his, and a sexy grin stretched his thin lips wide to show off the white teeth that made up his smile.

And God.

What a fucking smile it was.

“Well, have they?” he asked.

Gigi had enough sense to swallow before she spoke, lest her next words come out in a girlish rush of hormones and stupidity. It wasn’t often a man could make her tongue-tied, and certainly not by only his approach.

But here she was.

Suddenly, this celebration was looking way better.

“It’s not the first time I’ve heard that line, actually,” she replied.

A laugh burst from his mouth, and yes, she somehow managed to feel that sound all over her body. The noise of the bar began to disappear all around her as the good-looking bartender with a body that looked more suitable to be in the ring than behind the bar leaned in. Edging a bit closer to her, he used his free hand to toss a yellow-checkered bar rag over his broad shoulder.

The action had her swallowing.

Again.

Because she’d noticed his fingers. Their length, the roughness of the digits like he used them a lot, and then their proximity to her when he dared to point one at her.

“But the better question,” he said, “is whether you’ve ever actually been on a magazine, hmm? Something familiar about that face.”

“Really? Because everyone likes to say they’ve never seen one like it.”

Those blue eyes of his blinked.

Then, he smirked.

“Maybe that’s it—never seen anything like it.”

It also wasn’t the first time she had been told that line, either. Except there was something about the way he said it and how his tone dipped at the end. Like his gaze roving down her throat when his tongue peeked out to lick along the seam of his bottom lip.

“Hey, are you gonna get us a fucking drink or—”

The bartender held up one large hand to the left, his palm stopping all of two inches away from the face of a beefy guy leaning across the bar top. “I’m only mixing for front tables tonight—fuck off to the other side of the bar before I move you there.”

Gigi grinned.

He hadn’t taken his eyes off her.

“I’m Gigi,” she said.

He opened his mouth to reply, but the announcer standing at the DJ’s booth just a few feet away from the boxing ring stopped him from saying anything at all when the man’s voice filled the speaker. His attention drifted to the man as he straightened up to his full height, allowing him to easily stare over the crowd of people.

“Next fight—Lev Arsov versus Draven Kinley. Ten minutes to start—one ten-minute round. Betting begins now.”

His gaze came back to her, sharper and sexier than ever. This time, that grin of his was a little more sinful and tempting.

But also dangerous.

“Looks like I’m up next.”

Gigi’s head snapped to the side, and she was sure her face reflected the shock radiating through her gut in that moment. He was just a bartender, right? “What?”

He winked. “Lev Arsov—that’s me. Stick around, Gigi. See what happens next.”

“I was going to ask what you’re doing in New York. Every article I ever see says you live in—”

“Milan, yeah.” Gigi’s gaze darted to his, and a small smile formed on her pretty lips. “Bought a property there a little while back. I’m in New York for work. Fashion Week in September. Some campaigns before that. Never ends.”

“I knew I was right about you.”

Her light laughter had the fire in his chest easing as he admired the way she wasn’t ashamed to grin wide in her happiness. He wondered if the beauty that was presented about her and her life in the magazines was the truth sometimes. It had to be a lonely life to constantly be watched and seen but not really known.

“Did you follow me back here?” she asked.

Unconcerned about letting her know the truth, he nodded. “Yeah—they’re bad news, you know? Those men you’re here with today, I mean. I’m not sure what you were told about today, but—”

“Nothing until I was here. This was all set up around me; I was given a time to show up. That’s how things work in my business sometimes. My time is money, as I’m often told.”

“Really.”

It wasn’t even a question.

Just a heavy understanding.

One he didn’t like at all.

Gigi raised one brow. “What did you mean by that—bad news?”

Them. Their business. Whatever Jensen Todrey thinks he might be able to get from you. It’s all bad news. Without details, he could cause you a lot of problems. Word to the wise—keep away from him, and anything he wants you to do, as much as you can.”

She cleared her throat, shifting from foot to foot and hugging the bomber jacket she’d thrown over a short, flowy dress tighter to her form. “I don’t think my agency would put me in any danger, Lev.”

“Don’t be so sure.”

He wasn’t going to give her all the information he learned today. Not because he couldn’t … but because he wasn’t sure that it was safe to do. Hopefully, if she stayed away from Jensen, then that would be that.

Right?

The buzzing of a phone in Lev’s pocket reminded him that he still had a boss to report back to and soon. Probably tomorrow because he needed to grab his daughter after daycare, too, and he was running out of time to beat the worst of traffic if he lingered too long.

“I gotta run,” Lev told her, “but don’t trust them, Gigi. Please.”

He’d use the exit at the end of the hall to head out of the business and then just round the back and side of the building to where he left his Jeep parked with a meter running.

Before he had the chance to say goodbye, Gigi asked, “Could I see you again? I’m going to be in the city for a while, and if you have time I would love to catch up.”

He should have told her no.

She already had traffickers too close.

Did she really need a mob enforcer around, too?

Lev’s heart raced to speak before his brain could explain why it might be a bad idea—all because looking at her gave him a sense of nostalgia that he had never felt before. She looked at him differently than most people did; she saw a man she had known from a time before.

And that time came before he was this man.

Pink.

So yeah, he should have said no.

Instead, he said, “Yeah, there’s a bar I like where we could meet up in the next couple of days … it’s private, and you probably need that, right?”

EXCLUSIVE REVEAL EXCERPT

Cory flashed his teeth in a grin. “You out?”

That’s all he needed to ask.

His brother would understand.

“Would you hate me if I said yes?” Joe returned with a lazy smirk.

“Nah, I figured once I got a few drinks into you, then you’d be ready to head home.”

“Oh?”

A shrug lifted his shoulders. “Is what it is, bro.”

That was it, and that was all.

Joe didn’t have the same priorities as Cory at the end of every day now, and he got that. He didn’t need his brother to tell him to know that Joe’s mind hadn’t been very far from his wife and newborn son from the moment they walked into their club for a good time.

Besides …

“I got you out to blow the fucking stink off you,” Cory said, straightening up in the booth and eyeing the dancing crowd for something—or someone—interesting. He’d know what it was when he found it. “I’ll count that as a win.”

On another night, when Joe was less drunk and tired, he probably would have had a smart ass, cutting comment for Cory in reply. Instead, he just shook his head and smiled like he knew the truth.

“You know, if all you really want is to spend some time with me, you just gotta say, Cory.”

Yeah, well

“I told Liliana,” Cory said simply. “She came up with a better plan.”

Because usually, he’d just cause some shit to get his brother’s attention. It always worked before. He was trying a new thing—one that didn’t end up with someone in trouble, mostly him and Joe, or worse.

He figured that was good.

Mature.

Whatever.

“Let Max know at the door,” Cory said, “because I already had someone ready to drive you home when you were ready to go. He’s probably got the car close by the entrance.”

Joe sighed. “And what are you doing for the rest of your night?”

Cory’s gaze finally stopped in its search of the dancing swell of people when he found a brunette with a shimmering, black club dress tossing back a round of shots right off the tray of a server. In towering heels that showed off all kinds of smooth, tanned legs in that short dress, the woman spun around to join another female waiting. The fast movement made the blonde and red highlights in her long, wavy brown hair catch the lights overhead. The women started dancing again. Now that he had found her in the crowd, he couldn’t seem to look away.

Not that he minded.

She was quite a sight.

Every inch of her—from the curves of her hips to the glowing sheen on the valley of her breasts where that dress dipped dangerously low, and even the red on her lips—screamed fuckable. He tried not to objectify women upon first sight. It wasn’t a particularly admirable trait in a man, after all.

The brunette made it easy, though.

Damn.

She’d tossed back five shots one after the other. Not a flinch in sight. That meant one of two things to Cory.

The brunette was looking to forget something, or she wanted one hell of a night. Either way, he could provide both of those things. That was, if she was interested. He simply needed to make his way over to her and find out.

But first, Joe.

“Well?” Joe asked. “Do you need me to make sure you get home, too? Or are you not done here?”

Cory was already standing from the booth. “Not even close to done, bro.”

The only thing he could guarantee was that he’d make it home to take his dog, Mace, out for a piss, because the animal depended on him. The pup was the only thing that ever gave him a real sense of responsibility. He would be drunk when he got home, likely, but he always had a mob enforcer waiting in the wings to do the driving when needed.

And that was it. Everything else was up in the air. He liked it that way.

“Talk to Max—it was my deal with Liliana,” Cory told his brother as he passed by him in the booth to exit. “You’re not driving home.”

“Yeah, I got it. I don’t know what caught your attention out there on the floor, but you know the fucking rules, yeah?”

Joe called that at his retreating back.

Cory just laughed.

He was way too drunk to be picking up a brunette in his club to fuck, if he were being honest. The way the room looked as he walked away—a little too fuzzy, maybe—told him that.

What did it matter?

Fun was still fun.

“The rule, Cory!”

“Yeah, yeah.” He waved a hand high over his shoulder, and his fingers made the peace sign that quickly turned into just his middle finger standing up. “I know the rule—don’t be stupid.”

Sometimes, that was when he had the most fun.

He just knew better than to say it.

Excerpt
I was only six years old the first time I fired a gun. Eight
when my father forced me to hold my breath again and again in a bathtub full of
ice water. Twelve when he made me survive three nights alone in northern Maine
in the winter.

I know my father wasn’t right in the head. The problem is
that when you work for the CIA most of your adult life, it’s hard to
distinguish between paranoia and actual threats.

It took me longer than it should have to figure out
something was wrong. That some of the things my father was seeing weren’t
actually there. The cars “following” us. The “messages” he was being sent.

I had no frame of reference. I’d never attended a normal
school. I had no friends. My father was my whole world. He was the smartest,
most capable person I knew. The idea that he might be crazy was just . . . too
horrible to accept.

I push those memories to the back of my mind. I can’t get
distracted.

I’ve cleared the ground floor of the west wing. If Ivan
Petrov’s rooms are on this side of the house, they must be upstairs.

I climb the stairs, entering a hallway that seems to lead to
several bedrooms. All the closed doors are identical. Which one is Ivan’s?

As I keep walking, there’s a break between the doors, with a
library on the left, and what looks like an office on the right. And then
beyond that, at the end of the hallway, a set of double doors.

Bingo.

If there’s a master suite beyond those doors, it surely
belongs to Ivan Petrov.

Does he lock his doors at night?

I carefully test the old-fashioned handles. They move easily
beneath my hand.

With aching slowness, I crack the right-hand door.

It’s dark inside the suite, the blinds drawn. I slip through
the door, closing it silently behind me. I stand still, letting my eyes adjust
to the gloom.

I believe I’m in a sitting room, with the bedroom somewhere
beyond.

Holding my own breath, I think I can hear the slow inhale
and exhale of someone sleeping close by. It’s the breathing of a large man,
broad in the chest. Large lungs, a vast, slumbering body.
Ivan Petrov. I know it.
I’ve watched him from a distance. I’ve seen his intensity,
his ferocity. The way his men snap to attention when he comes close, the way
they obey his orders without question. I’ve seen his vigi- lance, the look of
intelligence on his face. And, of course, I’ve seen his massive, powerful body.
He wears a suit every day, but I’ve seen the round muscles of his shoulders and
biceps even beneath the thick material of the suit jacket.

I don’t want to get in a scuffle with this man. Nor do I
want to risk firing a gun in a house stuffed full of his soldiers, not even
with a silencer and a pillow wrapped round it.

So I’ve brewed up a special cocktail for Ivan Petrov. I take
it out of my pocket now.

A single syringe of clear amber fluid. Once I drive it into
his neck, he’ll be immobilized in moments. It will flood through his
bloodstream, turning his limbs to stone. His chest will seize up until he won’t
be able to draw a single breath. Remembering his mass, I’ve used enough
paralytic to freeze a racehorse in its tracks.

It won’t look like an accident, but that wasn’t a
requirement of the job. I just have to kill him and get out without getting
caught.

I move through the sitting room, into the bedroom beyond.
With the minute amount of light coming through the cracks in the blinds, I can
just barely see Ivan’s vast form, laying on the bed. He’s sprawled out on his
back, one thick arm flung up over his head. His heavily muscled and tattooed
chest is bare. There’s a patch of dark hair in the center of his chest, and a
thin line trailing down the center of his stomach, disappearing under the
sheet.

I suspect he’s completely naked under there, without even a
pair of boxer shorts. I can’t help glancing toward the bulge under the thin
sheet. It’s a shame to kill a specimen like this, right in his prime.

But there’s half a million dollars on the line. And if I
don’t kill Ivan Petrov, someone else will.
So I might as well get my money.
I approach the bed. Nothing could be more silent than my
feet, taking step after step across the thick oriental rug. I wear the same
kind of shoes that rock-climbers wear—thin, flexible, grippy. Little more than
leather slippers, and quiet as bare feet.

Petrov’s head is thrown back on the pillow, his throat
exposed. His dark hair tumbles across his eyes. His lips are slightly parted.
His breathing hasn’t changed—it’s still a steady metronome. But I’m about to
put a stop to it.

I slip the cap off the needle. I grip the syringe in my
fist, my thumb above the depressor.

As I raise my right hand in the air, above his neck, I can’t
help glancing one more time at Ivan’s face.

His dark brown eyes are open, staring up at me.

SYNOPSIS

James “Mac” Maccari’s career in the mafia is at a standstill. As the best solider in his Capo’s crew, all he wants is to be noticed enough to get Made in the Pivetti Crime Family. But instead, his Capo’s interests seem more focused on keeping his solider hidden from the boss, and every other Made man he can. Seemingly stuck right where he is with no chance of going up, Mac doesn’t know what will finally get him the attention he needs to earn his button.

Until she shows up and all eyes are on them …

Melina Morgan survives—that’s just what she does. She’s never been able to depend on anyone but herself to keep her safe and get things done. When a chance encounter puts her in a bad situation with the cops and the mafia, Melina has no choice but to put her faith in the hands of a man that not only infuriates her with his cocky arrogance, but catches her interest, too. Playing pretend in a fake relationship with Mac doesn’t seem all that terrible, until pretend turns real and bullets start to fly.

A man is nothing without his woman …

When the attention on Mac and Melina turns from bad to worse, and someone in the Pivetti Crime Family decides the couple needs to go, they know they’re fighting an uphill battle alone. But making it to the end alive means Mac could get what he’s always wanted, and Melina might find what she didn’t even know she needed.

Together, they’ll make waves the mafia has no choice but to notice …

Emilia—

All I’ve
ever wanted was to marry for love.
But girls
like me don’t have that luxury.
We are used
as pawns in a game we can’t control.
The game?
It’s called Mafia.
I was
foolish enough to try to change the rules… and I lost.
Luca—

She was
promised to me years ago.
And he
dared to take her from me.
Dared to
touch what was mine.
I put an
end to that.
I hope he’s
enjoying the view from his dirt room.
Emilia—

My
beloved’s killer placed a ruby ring on my finger and called me his queen.
But that
red gem symbolizes something different for me.
It
represents the blood shed by those I love most.
Hell was
empty the day we wed.
Because the
devil was standing before me and said “I do.”
Luca—

I saw her
as a possession.
A shiny toy
I didn’t want other boys to play with.
But she’s
so much more.
Beautiful
and brave and strong and broken all at once.
She tastes
like everything I’ve ever wanted.
Emilia—

Hidden and
patient.
I wait for
the perfect time to seek my revenge.
But slowly,
I feel him possessing me.
His heart
is full of darkness… and I still want every inch of him.
Hard as I
try, I can’t escape loving this beautiful monster.
Luca—

I’m waiting
patiently because I already know that she’s mine.
Mine in a
way that no one will ever understand.
Even if she
hasn’t yet realized it.
For love,
I’d do
anything.
For her,
I’d do
everything.

Excerpt
I focus my attention on the girl sitting to Sofia’s left. The more
beautiful one. The older-looking one. The more frightened-looking one with
tears pooling in her lower lids.
Dark brown hair cascading over her shoulders and down her arms, the ends
nuzzling against her bare skin like a frightened child clinging to its mother.
Almond-shaped deep-caramel eyes surrounded by lush dark lashes. A few scattered
freckles across the bridge of her perfectly shaped nose. Plump, glossy coral
lips.
In my wildest dreams, my betrothed didn’t grow up to be this beautiful.
And it annoys the hell out of me because I don’t want to be attracted to her.
I want to make her suffer.

Sofia Bellini grips the hand of the girl in question. “Please, Marco.
Swear to me on your honor that my daughter will be safe with you.”
My father chuckles. “Emilia is going to give us babies, heirs to the
Rossini empire. There is no safer place for her than with our family. You know
that.”
Sofia and the girl beside her, my Emilia, embrace one another and sob.
Her grandmother and sisters cluster around her doing the same. It’s pathetic. I
would have expected less of a display from Bellinis. Certainly not this
spectacle.
My betrothed has weaknesses. Those will need to be eliminated before she
influences our sons with that nonsense.
“That’s more than enough of that,” I tell them.

She lifts her chin and her eyes meet mine for the first time. Inside
those deep-caramel orbs, I see something I like very much: rage. There during
one heartbeat and gone the next, it was only a fleeting flash. But I saw it and
I don’t mistake it for what it is.
This girl is going to be so much fun to break.

“Come, Emilia. I’m ready to take you home.”

With an MC encroaching on Guzzi territory, family expectations following him, and more responsibility on his shoulders than ever, what’s one more thing added to his ever-growing list of duties when his father asks for a favor? He just didn’t expect that favor to bring with it a woman he can’t ignore.

Cella Marcello is a lot of things. Single mother. Daughter of a former New York Underboss. A highly sought-after interior designer. Widow. The one thing she’s learned about life after all that’s happened in hers? It keeps moving on, and so does she. When a contract for a penthouse design takes her to Toronto, she isn’t ready for the gorgeously dangerous man waiting there to make sure she has everything she needs. EXCLUSIVE REVEAL EXCERPT

Sometimes, her designs came from things she wanted to see, because that’s what the client preferred. Knowing what little she did about Cara Guzzi, she thought perhaps the woman might prefer her spaces to be designed more to her personal tastes.

But that would be hard to do when apparently, this was meant to be a surprise. It wasn’t as though Cella could go have dinner with the woman, sit down and chat about what she wanted to see in her penthouse. Or hell, even bring the woman here to do it.

That made the job more interesting.

And tough.

Cella liked a good challenge, though.

It was only as she was coming out of the main bathroom that she realized how quiet Tiffany had become during her mother’s walk-through of the place. Not that she was concerned her daughter found trouble because that was the last thing her child seemed to do.

Soon enough, she found Tiffany.

In the living room.

With a man.

His back stayed turned to Cella as the unknown man kneeled in his sharp, black three-piece suit that seemed tailored-to-fit on his tall, lean form. Broad shoulders covered by expensive fabric led down a back made up by hard, firm lines that had Cella stopping in the entryway to the space instead of walking forward.

Well, that, and his laugh.

It was a lovely sound.

Deep.

Full of bass.

Every part of her heard it and felt it, she was sure.

It was then that Tiffany finally noticed her mother.

“Ma!”

The man stood and turned to find Cella standing in the entryway. At first, his face took her by surprise. If only because it felt like she was looking into a mirror of Gian Guzzi—only a younger version of the man, with just slight differences. Just enough, really.

A strong jawline. Squared chin. Dark, thick brows lifted when his smirking lips curved higher in a sensual smile. His brown eyes—flecked with gold—looked her over. His hair, a dark espresso color, had been cut into a style that allowed him a bit of length at the top but was trimmed short along the sides. Mostly, it just seemed as though he brushed the strands back to keep them from falling into those eyes of his.

Eyes that still hadn’t looked away from her.

“Cella,” he said. “Good to see you again.”

She swore it was like stepping back in time.

They’d met before.

At a very dark time.

Back then, Cella hadn’t taken the time to notice very much about Marcus.

“Marcus Guzzi.”

His smile deepened. “I hear you need me.”

Did she?

Cella dragged in a quick breath.

Her heart thumped hard.

What was that?
