•Release Blitz/Review• Talkin’ Trash By Lani Lynn Vale!

Title: Talkin’ Trash
Series: Bear Bottom Guardians MC Book 2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: October 5, 2018
Cover Design: Cover Me Darling, LLC
Linc has two very important things on his mind—professional football and his motorcycle club.
What he does not have on his mind is the woman that drives him crazy and makes him want to do stupid things, like throw caution to the wind.
Nope, not Linc.
At least, that’s the lie he tells everyone.
In reality, every time Conleigh’s name is mentioned, he squirms.
She’s everything that he wants, wrapped up in a cute little package that is stamped ‘hands freakin’ off.’
She’s four years younger than him, in school to be a doctor, and thinks football is stupid.
Even more, Linc and Conleigh get along like oil and water.
There’s not a single second that they’re in each other’s presence that they’re not at each other’s throats.
But all it takes is hearing that she’s in trouble for Linc to drop every single thing—football and MC duties alike—and head to her side.

A side that he’ll remain at until they either kill each other, or finally give into the heat between them.
Either way you look at it, he’s well and truly screwed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just love Lani Lynn Vale books so much! This book did not disappoint! There’s the we’re meant to be romance and MC drama what’s not to love?!?! Conleigh and Lincoln have always known they were meant to be but had to put their relationship on hold just before they got serious. When Linc finally decides he’s no longer waiting and its time to be together Conleigh is kind of reluctant but Linc wasn’t letting her go. They were so adorable! Conleigh was cute but she was naive and little stubborn. Lincoln was a sweetheart but a butthead for letting their dads keep them apart for that long. I was so glad when he just decided their time is now! I definitely recommend reading this book! I can’t wait to read the next one!

Release Date: October 2, 2018

I’ve spent the last several years building my company, having zero time for a social life. I preferred it that way. After the mess my ex-wife left me with, I have no interest in anything remotely close to a relationship.

and that’s over my dead body.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed this book! Jack and Harley had great chemistry! Jack starts off as a jerk towards Harley because he wants her so much. I thought it was cute. When Jack finally gets over himself they are so good together! They both struggle with hurt from their pasts but they end up fixing each other and it’s so adorable! This book was hot and sweet with a little drama and I definitely recommend reading this!

Blog Tour: Esmeralda’s Happy Time Cabin For Lost Hikers by Suzanne Jenkins

Title: Esmerlda’s Happy Time Cabin For Lost Hikers
Author: Suzanne Jankins
Genre: Romance, Suspense

Add to your TBR – Goodreads

Kelly and Jeff Fairchild live a charmed life in their renovated Victorian mansion in the Jersey suburbs. Wall Street traders with a golden touch, they plan their vacations with the same detail and finesse used with their deals on Wall Street.
The next big outing is a hiking trip on an island in the Canadian Muskoka. Everything is perfection, from the brand name of their hiking boots to their silk long johns. Nothing can go wrong, right?

They’d been married for five perfectly lovely years and had five perfect notebooks of five fabulous vacations lined up on a special shelf in the den. Professionally framed photographs of the vacations covered the den walls. A sailing trip around the Pacific, a Mediterranean cruise, a hike across the Sahara Desert—all memorialized in sepia.
Summer was over and fabulous hiking weather had arrived. September was perfect for the trip: cooler temperatures, no black flies or mosquitoes, kids off the trails and back in school. Their vacations started the day after Labor Day. They used the three extra days to pack and load up their luxury SUV with everything they would need.
Taking a leisurely two days to get to Gravenhurst, they stopped along the way to sightsee. Friends Vic and Sandra Pease in Syracuse had invited them for dinner when they heard about this year’s trip.
“Why in God’s name hike Muskoka? You’ll have to go in circles to avoid water. If you must go to Canada, Vancouver or Banff would be better.”
“Oh, I disagree,” Jeff said. “It’s beautiful up there. And remote. We don’t want to compete for space with a lot of athletes. We want to take our time and enjoy the scenery. You should come up with us sometime.”
The friend shrugged his shoulders and laughed. “Nope, we’ll stay here and have a meal ready for you. My hiking days are over.”
Kelly was secretly anxious about the conversation. Her relationship with Jeff, the way they challenged each other to do more and take risks, was to her liking. She didn’t want to get complacent. The friend and his wife, people Jeff had gone to college with, were both overweight with bad teeth and had a house full of kids with runny noses and smart mouths.
When they finally left for the hotel, Kelly let out a sigh of relief. “Promise me you never want to live that way.”
Jeff looked over at her and took her hand. “I promise. I was almost afraid to eat in that dining room. Jesus, the noise!” He shook his head. “Not to worry. I love our life the way it is.” He leaned over with his eyes still on the road and puckered up.
The next morning at the hotel, they walked down to the dining room together. It was just after seven, and they were going to catch the seven forty-five ferry to Moon River at the trailhead to begin their hike. They ate eggs and bacon in silence, drinking coffee, when Jeff’s stomach made an audible complaint.
“That was weird!” They looked at each other, concerned. The start of a trip was not a good time to get stomach issues. “Maybe I’d better excuse myself.”
He got up and left her with the packs. She drank her coffee, looking out the window at Lake Muskoka. She loved it up here. If they didn’t have to work, this was where she’d really like to be. It was up north. Kelly had been born and raised in Michigan, and memories of trips to the northern half of the Lower Peninsula with her family had instilled a love of piney woods and sandy roads. She took a deep breath and smiled. All would be well. That was until Jeff came back, looking pale and shaky.
“Oh, you look uncomfortable,” she said, concerned.
“That’s an understatement,” he said. “I just had a stomachache that almost made me pass out.”
“Oh no, Jeff. Are you okay to go on?” She fought the urge to look at her watch, but the ferry was leaving in twenty minutes whether they were on it or not.
“Yes, absolutely. There’s a bathroom on the boat. Do you have toilet paper in your pack?” he asked, whispering.
She nodded her head. Would it come to that? Three years before, they’d gotten sick on a canoe trip while paddling through the Maine woods. Please, not that. It was the only time a trip hadn’t come off perfectly for them. An aberration, for sure.
They dragged their packs to the cash register, helped each other get them on their backs and walked slowly to the ferry.
“This is a nightmare.” It was so unlike Jeff to complain or say anything negative that Kelly started to worry.
“It’s no problem to move everything up a day, honey. All it will take is access to a printer and a few phone calls.”
But he was determined. “No. We’ve looked forward to this for the past twelve damn months. A little stomach bug isn’t going to hold me back.”
She shrugged her shoulders, wondering why his stubbornness always came out at the worst possible times. It certainly wasn’t going to be fun for her if he was miserable for a week. And what if he got sick while they were out? There was no way to contact anyone.
“Don’t get mad, but I have to ask one more time. Are you sure?” She saw him hesitate just a bit.
“I’m sure. Let’s go.”
They got on the ferry and paid for their tickets. Her mind playing tricks on her, she thought she saw Jeff struggling under the weight of his pack. They went to seats in the open air and took their packs off. They had a two-hour boat ride ahead of them; surely, he’d start feeling better after whatever it was he’d eaten that morning worked through his system. The only problem was his throat started to hurt halfway through the cruise. He dug through his kit, found a lozenge, and discreetly popped it into his mouth.
In minutes, Kelly looked at him, frowning. “Are you sucking on menthol? What’s going on?”
He tried to blow it off, waving her away. “It’s nothing. Just a tickle.”
Concern growing, the last thing she needed was to be stranded on a remote island with bears and rattlesnakes and a sick husband. She reached out and put her hand on his forehead. “You’re burning up!” she exclaimed. “Maybe we’d better go back.”
While he protested, she turned to dig in her own kit and get some aspirin tablets out.
“This’ll run its course,” he said, trying not to moan.
Before Kelly could get a bottle of water to him so he could swallow the pills, he bolted to the men’s restroom.
“Oh no. This isn’t good,” she said out loud.
Glancing out the window, the sun was up, but the sky was overcast. The projected forecast was sunny and clear for the next ten days. The bathroom door opened and her husband came out, more pale than before, only to turn around and go back in. Knowing his mind was made up, no amount of nagging would convince him to go back to the hotel. Their relationship was based on history—history that once Jeff was on a mission, there would be no turning back regardless of the circumstances.
He was even afraid to drink water. Finally feeling safely empty, he ventured out, weak and shaky, but looking embarrassed. It was a good sign.
“I was about to get an officer to go in and make sure you were okay.”
“I’m better now,” he said. “I think it was Vic and Sandra’s spaghetti and meatballs.”
“From Monday night? Doesn’t food poisoning usually show up quickly?” Kelly asked, doubtful.
“I felt bad yesterday, but didn’t want to ruin the day for you,” Jeff replied. “I got the feeling you were holding back, too.”
She had been, but not for the reason he thought. “You should have said something, Jeff.”
“Well, I feel better, so no harm done. And we’ll be at the starting spot of our fabulous hike in less than twenty minutes! Are you getting excited?” He hugged her in a one-arm hug while they stood at the rails, looking out over the water. “I think it’s going to be a really good hike.”
She smiled up at him, some of the former enthusiasm coming through again. Two perfect people going on their perfectly planned vacation.

BLURB

Delilah Sage was my comfort within all the pain.

Offering open arms when I needed an escape.

The only one trusted to be there for me.

But our dreams were doomed from the start.

And I left her clinging to false hope.

Regret has plagued me for years.

The memories of Delilah refuse to fade.

Each second of every day, I want to claim her as mine.

But I won’t ruin her life.

And she’s better off without me.

When a job lands me in town, I plan to keep my distance.

My scars are mine alone.

Dredging up the past will only cause deeper damage.

But Delilah has always been my weakness.

And resisting her isn’t an option.

After all, there’s far too much for us to miss.

My thoughts 💭

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a nice second chance romance! Zeke had to grow on me, I didn’t like him at first! Zeke left town with a dream but got beat down by life and crappy people and he didn’t want it to touch Delilah so he never came back for her. He has to come back to town for a job and panicked at the thought of seeing Delilah again. But after seeing her he realized he wanted to have her again and he’d do anything for the chance. Delilah is kind of hesitant but willing to give Zeke a chance and she was so adorable about it. She came off prickly sometimes but you really couldn’t blame her from the way Zeke left and didn’t call the first time. I think they had great chemistry. They were meant for each other and I loved reading their story!

EXCERPT

“Why are you being like this?” I ask softly.

His voice is even more flat when he says, “Not sure what you mean. This is me.”

“You’re acting so detached and strange. This isn’t like you.”

“Well, you don’t know me anymore.”

That response brings fury and betrayal roaring to the surface again. “And whose fault is that, Zeke?” I grab a nearby mug with the intention of throwing it at his head. He’s giving me worse mood swings than Aunt Flo.

“We both know the answer. Let’s not play guessing games.”

“You’re ridiculous. I don’t understand you at all,” I say.

“A lot happens in five years. You’re not the only one who’s changed.” He gestures around the store.

“What is that supposed to mean? Are you upset about my career choice?”

“Nah, that isn’t it.”

“What then? Let’s stop dancing around. You came here for a reason,” I point out.

A flush races up his neck, painting the stubbled skin an angry red. “All of this is proof you never needed me. Not like I fucking depend on you.”

With everything I want.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was just amazing, I couldn’t stop reading! It gave me all the feels!! Gypsy was a con artist and Lucian ends up blackmailing her into marrying him and she can’t figure out why. Lucian had it in his mind to save Gypsy but they ended up saving each other and I loved it! This book is filled with twists that’ll have you wondering what’s going to happen next and I loved every moment! I can’t wait to read the next one!

I walked into my office and found the tall, leggy brunette waiting for me. She wasn’t the only one either. Beside her, Ace played around on his phone while Birdie flipped through a magazine.

I wasn’t surprised to see her this soon. In all honesty, I’d expected her to show up at my door last night, demanding to have Ace removed from her presence. But it appeared as though they survived the night, just barely.

“May I have a word with you?” Gypsy asked.

“You may,” I told her as I checked my watch. “In thirty minutes. When my lunch is finished.”

Her eyes narrowed, and she planted her hands on her hips as she stood. “You must be joking.”

“I don’t joke,” I responded flatly.

She stalked forward, stopping only when she’d breached the narrow distance that few people ever dared to try with me. She was reverting to her baser skills of seduction, but I doubted she even realized it. The instinct came naturally to her, often rewarding her with whatever she wanted, and admittedly, it might have worked on me too once.

She smelled of coconut oil and sunshine, and it encouraged a vivid image of her lying out on the beach. I could almost bet that if I were to touch her skin, it would be warm too. So warm that it would be easy to get lost in. She probably counted on it, but I was prepared to let Gypsy know from the start how this game would be played. There were only one set of rules, and they were mine.

“Do you want me to throw a fit?” she threatened as her eyes darted around my office. “Because I will.”

Now that was funny. My lips tilted despite my resolve to remain dry as toast.

“Do you think it would be the first time someone threw a fit in here?” I asked her. “I’m sorry to tell you sweetheart, but it wouldn’t.”
“It would probably be the first time someone accused you of holding them hostage in front of your employees.”

I turned and gestured for her to go ahead.

“Be my guest.”

Her lips tightened, and she clamped down on her jaw. After watching her for so long, these unintelligent threats from her were a disappointment. Of course, she wouldn’t make a scene because she had more to lose than I did.

“Thirty minutes,” I repeated. “I’ll have my secretary call for you when I’m finished.”

I walked into my office and shut the door behind me.

Title: Collared by the Badman
Series: Russian Bratva Series
Author: Hayley Faiman
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date:
Cover Design: Cassy Roop @ Pink Ink Designs

Sergei Orlov has lived a life of dark corruption. Denying himself any bit of normalcy and happiness as a way to protect his family—of blood or Bratva.

He’s seen as a savior to his men, living in darkness behind closed doors.

Raisa was a girl sold into a life of sexual servitude. Memories of her life before—forgotten. She aspires to be cherished by a man who will forever keep her as his own, never to be sold, abused, or traded again.

A favor asked, turns into something else, something unquestionably beautiful. Sergei cannot deny that Raisa stirs something inside of him. Something that he has never felt before.

One fractured savior. One shattered soul. When the two collide, their lives take on new meaning.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a wonderfully written story! I enjoyed the drama, Bratva and bdsm. Raisa and Sergei were hot! Raisa had a hard life prior to becoming Sergei’s submissive. Sergei is just the right Dom for Raisa, they balanced each other perfectly. If you enjoy romance that’s dark and hot I definitely recommend this book.

I was born and raised in California. My husband and I met when I was just 16. We were married a few years later, moving to Oregon while he was in the US Coast Guard.

Texas is now where we call home, where our boots rest, and where we’re raising our two little boys and a chocolate lab named Optimus Prime.

-Book Tour/Review- Army By Chiah Wilder

Title: Army
Series: Night Rebels Motorcycle Club
Author: Chiah Wilder
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: September 18, 2018

A member of the Night Rebels MC, Army is an arrogant, tough, SOB, and he makes no bones about it. His idea of having a good time is riding his Harley, boozing with his brothers, and having rowdy sex whenever the mood strikes him—which is often. Hook ups are on his terms, and if a woman doesn’t like it, there’s always another one waiting to take her place.

Then he sees her fighting in the rink, moving in ways that give him a whole bunch of nasty ideas about what he wants to do to her. And the way she looks at him? Well … there’s no denying the intense, mutual attraction. Chemistry sparks between them like the Fourth of July.

The only problem? She says she’s not interested. What the …?

Stiletto’s attraction to the rugged biker is like a storm electrifying the air, but with his swagger and perpetual smirk, he’s a poster boy for shattering hearts. If only her body would understand that.

Then she finds out he’s a member of the Night Rebels Motorcycle Club and is a deadly rival of her brother’s MC—The Satan’s Pistons.

But one night with him wouldn’t hurt anyone.

It’d just be a hook up, and probably the best sex she’d ever had.

Besides, who would ever know?

Then a series of tragic events lead the star-crossed lovers down a dangerous and dark path, forcing Stiletto and Army to make the hardest choices of their lives.

The Night Rebels MC series are standalone romance novels. This is Army’s story. This book contains violence, abuse, strong language, and steamy/graphic sexual scenes. It describes the life and actions of an outlaw motorcycle club. HEA. No cliffhangers. The book is intended for readers over the age of 18.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Army had moments when he was a big jerk and moments when you understood that his parents relationship made an impact on him. He didn’t trust women and I got whiplash how often he went from jerk to not a jerk because he was actually interested in Mia. Mia was indecisive as well but hers came from not wanting things to only be about s*x. It was cute how they both were obsessed with each other. I enjoyed the books drama and thought it was well written, I’d definitely recommend it for MC romance lovers!

Aren’t you cold?”

Mia jumped at the sound of the deep voice—she didn’t hear anyone come out. She pushed away from the wall and let her gaze fall on Army. The yellow glow of the streetlights made his features soft against the darkness of the night. She ran her hands up and down her pebbled skin. “I am. I was just going to head back inside.”

He stood in front of her, blocking her. “Stay for a few minutes.” He shrugged off his leather jacket and draped it around her shoulders before she could protest. The heat from his body felt absurdly intimate, and she was extremely aware of his fingers brushing the back of her neck. He smelled of leather and caramelized dark coffee beans with a tang of salty herbs to it, and it was the most sensual aroma she’d ever come across. It wrapped around her, and much to her chagrin, desire rippled through her.

“Thanks,” she croaked, her throat dry with tension.

“We never really met each other. I’m Army.”

“Mia,” she said softly. He still stood close behind her.

“That’s a pretty name,” his breath whispered over the curve of her neck, threatening to ensnare her.

Without thinking, she leaned back into him, and he ran a thumb along her jaw as his calloused skin scratched her lightly. “I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you during the fight. You were amazing.” His breath was warm on her cheek and her inner thighs clenched in reaction.

Army cupped Mia’s chin and tilted her head back so she gazed into his desire-filled eyes. Her lips parted when he dipped his head down as his grip tightened on her chin.

Her brain screamed at her to stop, but her traitorous body relaxed in his powerful arms. Danger radiated from him, but it only heightened her excitement.

“Mia,” he said, his low voice a mixture of sensual and gruff masculinity.

Her stomach fluttered as she closed her eyes in anticipation of his kiss.

Lance has loved Lady Gwin for a hundred years. Though he’s the best knight in Camelot, his low birth ensured that she was beyond his suit, and so she was promised to another. But when Lance and Gwin’s lips accidentally meet, Lance flees Camelot, rushing into battle recklessly to avoid conquering the one quest he’s never completed: having the noble Lady Gwin in his arms.

Lady Gwin has been living a lie for a hundred years. Her arranged marriage linked two powerful families, ensuring her place among her people—but her vows were never consummated, and the union to a treasonous wizard is a sham. Now, she’s ready to tell the world the truth, starting with the man who captured her heart just before her wedding day. But when a stolen kiss sends Lance running unprepared into a dangerous mission, Gwin is determined to save him.

Though forbidden love has drawn them together, the pressures of society and the pursuit of a deadly enemy threaten to tear Lance and Gwin apart. In a place as steeped in ancient tradition and duty as Camelot, following their hearts could spell disaster.

One Knight is the second book in a series of modern-day retellings of the myths and lore of Camelot. If you like fierce knights who would lay down their lives for their brothers and lose their hearts for their women, then you’ll love the Knights of Caerleon.

She would not have noticed him except his hair. It was such a vivid and bold color of red that it invited the eyes to stare. And stare she did. At more than just his hair.
Gwin had seen many fine men in the town; knights, warriors, even princes, and kings came to visit. Many were handsome and well-put together. But there was something different about this boy, no man. His shoulders looked broader than any others. His forearms looked more muscled; his chin more square.
She spied powerful thighs at the edge of his plaid. Thick, bulging muscles that rivaled a horse’s flank. She wondered what it would feel like to mount and ride his rump.
Her cheeks reddened at her lewd thoughts. Such an idea had never once entered her mind. Gwin lifted her gaze and met his eyes.
Such a shock of blue that she’d only seen one time before… on the face of Sir Lancelot, the second of his name.
Perhaps this young man was a distant cousin? If so, Gwin wondered why she’d never seen him before? Sir Lancelot had no sons of his own, and would likely not have any anytime soon. His dear wife had been in sickbed for much of the last decade with a disease that Gwin’s magic couldn’t heal.
Gwin continued gazing into the red-headed man’s blue eyes until she realized, the reason she saw them so clearly was because he was staring back at her. Embarrassment stormed over her, but she couldn’t look away. It was as though his eyes held her in place. He smiled at her like no man had ever smiled.
Gwin’s cheeks heated. The heat broke the spell, and Gwin gasped. Was he a wizard?
Gwin shrank back into the woods. She should’ve gone to Merlin, to see if her fiancé needed any tending, but he had color in his cheeks today. And it looked like it was only a minor cough. If he needed her, he’d certainly say so. Loud and clear enough for everyone to hear it and send someone to find her.
That was mean of her. She didn’t begrudge Merlin. She didn’t know what it was like to be ill. It had to be hard for him.
She knew he wanted to be strong and able like his father and younger brother. It was a blow to Merlin when Excalibur chose Arthur. But Merlin’s magic wracked his body far too much for him to lift a sword most days.
They’d discovered that Gwin’s magic soothed the savage magic inside him. They’d discovered this when she’d come over to him as a child and touched him. She and Merlin had been in each other’s company ever since. It was inevitable that they would get married.
She cared very much for Merlin. She was sure that care would turn to love one day. Perhaps not blinding and all-consuming passion as other ladies spoke of or what she read in novels. What she had with Merlin was familiar. And it was nice to be needed and appreciated and-
Oof!
Gwin tripped over a tree root having not looked at where she was going. The hem of her dress got tangled, and she couldn’t maintain her balance. There was no time to cast a spell to right herself. She was falling to the ground. Gwin reached out her hands to protect herself. But there was no impact.
She was caught in a hug. A hug that was warmer than Lady Merylin’s. A tight embrace that made her feel safe and secure. Gwin’s instinct was to cling to this feeling and stay in the space forever.
“Are you all right, lass?”
The deep voice startled Gwin. She lifted her hands and shot witch fire. The red-haired boy took a direct hit on his arm and went down. She also went down as he had been holding her, keeping her from falling.
Gwin scrambled to her knees and crawled over to him. “I’m so sorry,” she said when she reached him. “You startled me.”
His eyes were closed. They opened slowly, focusing on her. She had the occasion to watch that unique blue clear and come into focus. She felt like she was watching magic unfold.
Gwin felt something ignite down in the depths of her soul, deep in her gut where her magic lived. Her heartbeat sped up, pounding against her chest cavity so loudly that it rattled her rib cage. Her mouth filled with desire, and she had to swallow it down once, twice. Even with her throat clear, she still couldn’t find her voice.
“Hello,” he said.
“Hello,” she said.
They continued to stare, blue eyes latched on blue. Gwin didn’t understand the fog happening in her head. She felt as though magnets were growing between them. Not the polar opposite charges Morgan had shown her. It felt like they were the same charge fighting to get closer and make a connection.
“Are you a wizard?” she asked.
He smiled and it dazzled her. “No. I’m a bastard.”
Gwin gasped at the use of the foul language. “That’s not a proper word.”
“My apologies,” his Scottish accent was thick on his tongue. “I suppose I shouldn’t say that to a lady. But I have not been around many ladies to know better. Still, that improper word is what I am. My father lay with my mother while he was wed to another.”
She knew such things happened, but not often in Camelot. His father must be of a line that lived outside a magical town that was on the ley lines that spanned the world.
Though his birth was dubious, that made him no less of an equal. At least not in her view. Her mother would definitely believe differently.
“The circumstances of your birth do not dictate the path of your life,” she said to him. “Only you can do that.”
He stared at her for a moment before saying, “Here, let me help you up.”
She hadn’t noticed that they were both still crouched down on the ground. She was leaning over him as he lay on his back. The position wasn’t proper, but it had felt so right being this near him that Gwin hadn’t noticed the impropriety.
Gwin straightened, coming first to her knees. The young man made to sit up but winced. There was a red mark on his arm where her witch fire had hit him.
“I’m so sorry,” she said. “I can heal that.”
She reached out to his arm. She pulled from the well of magic that lived inside of her. There was plenty of herself to give, she didn’t need to tap into the ley energy that ran beneath the entire town.
His face lit in wonder as he watched her. His eyes stayed fastened on her face, not on what she was doing. Warmth flooded her as she touched his skin. She didn’t want to pull away from the sensation. She wanted to get closer to it.
“Do you feel that?” he asked.
“Feel what?” But she knew exactly what he was talking about. As she pulled on her magic, something else pushed its way into her being. The sensation pooled in her heart.
“It feels like the world coming into focus and making sense for the first time.” His eyes dipped to her lips.
It was like a tale out of a fairy story or a romance novel. It was what she’d always imagined falling in love would feel like. The moment was so ripe for a kiss. And then it all fell apart.
“You bastard.”
One moment, Gwin had seen her life laid out before her. So clear, so perfect, so right. The next moment, that feeling was yanked away from her as the man, whose name she still didn’t know, was wrenched from her.
It was the worst feeling, having her destiny stripped from her. Gwin looked up to see Sir Lancelot. His face inflamed a deeper shade of red than his hair.
“I knew I shouldn’t have brought you here, you ingrate.” Sir Lancelot was so angry that spittle collected at the sides of his mouth.
The young man who was his mirror image from younger days scrambled to his feet. His head had been high, even when he’d called himself that foul word. Now it hung low at hearing it hurled from another. “Nothing happened father-”
“Don’t you dare call me that. You’re nothing but a by-blow. And now I catch you taking advantage of a lady.”
“He didn’t take advantage,” said Gwin. “He was wounded. I was healing him.”
“He’s beneath your notice, my lady,” said Sir Lancelot. “If I could smite out his existence with this sword, I would”
Sir Lancelot raised the blade as though to strike. The young man didn’t cower. He stood tall and proud, ready to take his punishment. But Sir Lancelot was having trouble moving the sword.
The elder knight’s eyes widened, going from his son to the sword. Sir Lancelot struggled as though he were trying to hang on to the blade, not slice it downward.
“No,” growled Sir Lancelot, now using both hands to hang onto his blade. “Not him.”
The sword didn’t listen to its former master; as magical swords were wont to do when their former master’s time was up. The sword slipped from Sir Lancelot’s grip and hovered before his son.
