Review: Prowling Their Mate by Tasmin Baker

Length: 160 pages

Published: October 28, 2019

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Source: Kindle Unlimited

Synopsis

Laura thinks soulmates are for suckers…

Can two gorgeous brothers prove to the cynic, that she’s their fated mate?

People say I’m too much—too big, too smart, too loud.

Well too damn bad! I’m finally content with my plus-size body and quiet life.

Sure, I haven’t dated in forever, but I have a thriving veterinary practice and a kid sister to worry about. Besides, experience tells me animals are much more deserving of my attention than any man.

Until two gorgeous brothers knock me off my feet. The unsettling animal-attraction is instant.

I can’t fight it. I don’t want to.

Finding Mr Right is not on my to-do-list, but I’m up for a little fun with Mr Right Now—times two.

Somehow these polar-opposite twins—Tyler with his gentle intelligence, and Brandon with his strength and protective streak—form a perfect pair.

And as they worship every inch of my curvy body, they thaw my frozen heart.

If falling in love isn’t scary enough to send me running, discovering these men are actually mountain lion shifters should do the trick.

But they claim I’m their fated mate.

And I know it’s true because loving them is easier than breathing… but will the ghosts of their past tear us apart?

*** Steamy MFM shifter romance.

Author note: This is a re-release or ‘Prowling the Vet’ – the story has been thoroughly edited and I hope you enjoy it!

My thoughts 💭

This was a sweet read. Tyler and Brandon meet their mate in one awkward situation but they still pursue her. Laura is kind of skeptical about how much the guys want to date her but decides to do what makes her happy. There’s a little ex drama but not too bad. I liked the book and will be reading the next one!

Review: Amber by Mia Harlan

Synopsis

It’s hard enough being a chameleon shifter with wonky powers… but opening Jewels Cafe in a supernatural town like Silver Springs? Maybe not the best idea.

I thought I could work side by side with my best guy friend… but now I have to juggle hiding my crush for him and putting our cafe on the map. Because if no one in Silver Springs realizes that we’ve got this hidden gem soon, we might go out of business!

So what do we do? Create a signature drink with hints of pumpkin spice just in time for fall.

Surprise, surprise. I take one sip and I”m thrown for another loop. The sweetest bear shifter is drawn to me like honey. A sexy bunny shifter offers me his carrot. They don’t even seem to mind that I accidentally shift into everyone I meet.

But can my chameleon powers save Jewels Cafe? Can I juggle these two hot shifters and my childhood crush? And what happens when a spell threatens to tear us apart?

My thoughts 💭

This was a sweet and funny romance with some misunderstandings. Amber and Julian are best friends and are in love with each other but won’t tell each other. Julian gets tired of waiting for her to notice him as more than a friend and accidentally casts a mate spell on Amber which attracts Wes and Chase. I thought it was a cute story and I enjoyed reading.

Review: Broken Destiny (Hidden Academy #1) by Serena Lindahl

Length:228 pages

Published: October 30, 2019

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis

Having spent the last seven years in an orphanage, Zosia is shocked when someone tells her she’s a sphinx and the last guardian of the sentient library of Supernaturals. The elite academy which houses the powerful library rejects her because she isn’t perfect, but she knows instantly that the library is where she belongs. She ignores the academy’s decree and gathers others around her – four guardians who are just as perfectly imperfect as she is.

But her powers, her ability to shift, and her strength are tied up in the memories she can’t bear to access – memories of torture as a young girl – horrible acts which made her the way she is. When the library is all that stands between two ignorant factions trying to cause a war, it’s up to her and her guardians to prevent it. But first, she has to face her worst fears – including believing in herself.

***This book is a reverse harem, why choose, slow-burn adventure. Some topics may be triggering and/or of a sensitive nature. ***

My thoughts 💭

This was my first book by the author and I loved it. Everyone was unique in their own way! Zosia was so accepting of her new guardians no matter their “flaws”. She’s kinda fierce and I love her! Garrett, Avery, Bren and Kodi adore her and I can’t wait to see where their relationship goes! This was an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to read whatever is next!

Synopsis

There’s one word you don’t utter at Prescott High, not unless you want them to own you.

H.A.V.O.C.

Hael, Aaron, Victor, Oscar, and Callum.

The Havoc Boys rule the hellhole we call Prescott High.

Once upon a time, they ruled me. For an entire year, I endured their shit.

But senior year is going to be different.

This year, I own them.

I’ve made a pact with the Havoc Boys to get the vengeance I deserve.

Their price? Me. At their beck and call, in their beds, a part of their gang.

Their girl.

A Havoc Girl.

Those dirty, rotten boys are going to get revenge against everyone that’s wronged me—everyone but themselves.

HAVOC AT PRESCOTT HIGH is a 105,000 word mature high school/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. It has brief flashbacks of past bullying incidents as well as foul language and sexual scenes; any sex featured is consensual. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is book one of three in the series.

My thoughts 💭

I can’t wait to read the next book! Bernadette is out for revenge so she calls upon the Havoc boys to help her even though they tormented her for a while. They accept and the price is she’s now theirs but Vic is possessive! This book is crazy and filled with drama. I definitely recommend!

Book Blitz: Gouster Girl by David E. Gumpert

GOUSTER GIRL

by David E. Gumpert
Publication Date: December 9, 2019
Genres: YA, Interracial Teen Romance, Historical Fiction, Coming of Age, Romance

SYNOPSIS

Maybe because they are young and innocent, cute black Valerie Davis and nerdy white Jeffrey Stark are late to realize that falling in love on Chicago’s South Side in 1963 is a highly risky business for an interracial couple. At first, they help each other out of tough racial fixes—he saves her from attack at an all-white amusement park and she saves him from injury in a racial brawl at their high school. But as their romance becomes more serious, so do the racial dangers. White police target Valerie as a prostitute and black gang members see Jeffrey as trying to sexually exploit a black girl. Seemingly inevitably, the blossoming romance collides head on with the realities of Northern-style racism one hot summer afternoon at one of Chicago’s most beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, when a racial protest turns ugly, confronting the couple with terrible choices.

Gouster Girl vividly depicts the raw racism so prevalent during the early 1960s, which ushered in decades of gang violence that turned sections of Chicago into the urban killing fields they are today. Gouster Girl opens in the summer of 1963 with the white Stark family tearfully moving its belongings onto a moving truck in front of the tidy South Shore neighborhood apartment building they love, just blocks from where Michelle Obama would grow up. As they load up the truck, 16-year-old Jeff and his parents argue yet again about the racial fears and fantasies that are leading them to abandon South Shore, with its delis and shuls and beautiful beaches. Through the eyes of Jeff, Gouster Girl then takes us back to the unlikely racial violence that led to his romance with Valerie and how she variously teases and embarrasses him to confront his most deeply held racial prejudices. Valerie introduces Jeff to the highs and lows of her life– to black music and dancing, as well as police corruption, job discrimination, misguided school tracking systems and housing discrimination that keeps blacks separate and unequal.

A makeout session in an isolated section of Jackson Park leads the couple into a confrontation with police, which highlights for both the realities of what we today refer to as “white privilege.” It also pushes the Stark family more fully toward a decision about whether to join other whites in fleeing South Shore.

This highly evocative coming-of-age story will alternately charm, anger terrify, and upset readers as they travel back to a time that was seemingly simpler, but was also blunt in its racial and religious prejudices.

My thoughts 💭

This was an enjoyable story with a twist. Summer is caught stealing and becoming a shadow for four years is her punishment. She is not one to take crap from anyone and I liked her. I can’t wait to read what’s going to happen in year two with Summer now that she’s aware of the truth.
